Common Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers

What fitness level do I need?

You don’t need to be super fit. Our hiking groups cater to different abilities — there’s always a route that suits you. Most members are just looking for a gentle walk and good conversation, not a competitive race.

Do I need my own equipment?

Not at all. For birdwatching, we’ve got binoculars available. For astronomy, telescopes can be borrowed. For sketching, bring what you have or learn what works. Hiking just needs comfortable shoes and waterproofs.

Are the groups social, or is it serious business?

Both, really. We’re serious about enjoying nature and learning, but it’s definitely social. Expect chat, laughter, and often a cuppa tea afterwards. These are groups of adults who like being outdoors together.

How do I join a group?

Drop us a message with which activity interests you most. We’ll send details about upcoming meetups in your area, what to expect, and how to connect with the group leader.

Can I try a group before committing?

Absolutely. Come along to one session and see if it’s your thing. No sign-up sheets, no fees, no pressure. If you like it, you’ll naturally come back.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We’re in Ireland — rain happens. Hiking groups usually go ahead unless it’s dangerous. Astronomy nights get rescheduled if it’s cloudy. Sketching and birdwatching work in most weather with proper gear.

About Our Groups

We’re a network of outdoor enthusiasts across Ireland who believe adults 40-60 should be getting out more, not less. Since we started, we’ve connected hundreds of people who’ve discovered new hobbies, made genuine friendships, and fallen in love with the Irish countryside all over again.

What makes us different? We’re not running military-style expeditions or intense skill-building courses. We’re just adults doing things we enjoy, together. Whether you’ve been hiking for years or picked up binoculars for the first time last month, you’ll fit right in. The pace is comfortable, the groups are welcoming, and there’s always room for one more person.

Our groups operate across eight counties — Wicklow, Wexford, Cork, Kerry, Galway, Mayo, Antrim, and Down. Each has its own rhythm and character, but all share the same philosophy: get outdoors, enjoy nature, and make the most of it with good people.
